Howl NYE 1858
WHAT: Howl NYE 1858
WHERE: Denver, Colorado
WHEN: December 31st, 2011
On Saturday, December 31st, the New Years cult event ‘Howl’- a united showcase of music, performance and environmental-design (all rolled into one) took place for the third year in a row. Each year presents a different theme based on a different time in history, and this year was no exception, as Howl will took its cues from 1854; those in attendance were given the promise of coalescence into a Wild West/American Frontier-type environment and a mingling among spirits of those who had forged west to seek themselves. The event featured a double-headed musical preamble: not only the return of blues hero and local revivalist madman The Reverend Deadeye, but also Independent Music Award Winner Possessed By Paul James has been added to the bill- whose piercing sound and in-your-face presence give the impression that the man perhaps, really is possessed. The later hoedown was provided by DJ’s Double Shadow and Eddie B to get the Pantaloons and Pantalettes a-swayin’.
In addition to the lovely and vivacious Howl-newcomer Miss Orchid Mei performed and of course all of the evening’s hosting duties were under the dubious care of humorous pervert and local celebrity (and owner of Lannies Clock Tower Cabaret) Naughty Pierre.
Special thanks to Sneakyboy Studios for this video and to the Vinyl District for the lovely write up

From Shaman and shoot-outs, cocktails and confessionals (you read right- Howl will indeed contain a confessional booth), to food trucks and photographers, this is guaranteed to be the best Howl yet!

Three Tracks of the Week: Lazy Afternoon
Mmmm…. today has been a wash of sunshine, good eats, and a patio with friends. It is the quintessential lazy afternoon: milling about and in no rush to complete a task or be somewhere. It was perfect and much needed! Here are the tracks of the week to complement a lazy afternoon:

Mix and Match
My heart swoons over the pattern mixing of fashion designer Tsumori Chisato. I LOVE the idea of applying these concepts to the environment itself, from mishmash dinning room chairs, to a range of patterned table settings, to the use of multiple textiles in a room. Interleaving patterns in a space forces you to give over control to the organic. Check this out:

Three Tracks for a Bohemian Fall
With this week in Colorado has come the introduction of fall. The air is crisp and I have been working at my computer with my thinking socks (warm, stripped wool) and hot cup of tea. This season also brings with it a selection of album revisits. Here are my top three bohemian fall tracks of the week:
Brian Jonestown-Anemone
Beach House-Crimson and Clover
Tommy James & The Shondells-Crimson and Clover
Dance Dance Party Party
NO BOYS, NO BOOZE, LEG WARMERS OPTIONAL
Freeform Women’s Dance Experiment Expands Across USA & World
Denver hosts one of the newest chapters of the female-only cult phenomenon known as Dance Dance Party Party™ (DDPP™). Unlike typical workout or dance classes, Dance Dance Party Party™ has no instructors, no fitness goals, and nothing to prove. There are only three rules in the room – no boys, no booze, and no judgment.
Begun in 2006, DDPP™ is the creation of New York City residents Glennis McMurray and Marcy Girt. The two friends loved dancing at the clubs with gal pals, but loathed cover charges, getting hit on and reeking of alcohol and cigarettes the next day.
The set-up is simple: an hour and a half of booty-busting tunes, a dance studio or other room with the lights turned low, and women willing to let go. Although McMurray and Girt began the class on a whim, they found it struck an unexpected chord. “DDPP started as a way to work out and have fun without the conformity of a gym – how often have you heard your favorite song while you’re on the treadmill and wanted to hop off to do a real running man?” said McMurray. ”But it has morphed into this amazing revolution of sorts where women come to find that little girl inside us all who just wants to have fun!”
Attendees can even sign up to “Guest DJ” by creating a custom mp3 playlist. Anything and everything goes from Broadway to hip-hop to 80’s hits (along with a cool-down song at the end); 20 or so songs that will get everyone up and moving. Ladies are encouraged not only to DJ but to give themselves a killer DJ name. (Favorites include DJ Tanner and DJ Roy G Biv DeVoe.)
Through word of mouth alone, over a dozen DDPP™ chapters have cropped up all over the USA and internationally. Women around the world are responding to this liberating atmosphere where they are free to goof around, shake their bodies without objectification and feel good about who they are.
DDPP has been featured in The New York Times, the Etsy.com blog and The Village Voice among countless other media outlets. Chicago Tribune reporter Monica Eng wrote, “Why we decide to reveal our inner spaz to this room of mostly strangers is unclear,” and concludes DDPP™ is “a buttload of fun.”
Join the ladies of Betty Bluebird.com. October 5th and then every Wednesday thereafter from 7:00 pm-8:30 pm. Located in the 910 Arts building Studio G18 (behind Event Gallery 910 Arts). Cost is $5
